What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is often more open-ended than counselling, and gives you the opportunity to explore the origins of your current behaviours in your past experiences. It is reflective and aims to help you achieve insight and understanding about yourself so that you evolve into a more whole individual.
I use both these approaches in my work with clients, moving between the two as appropriate, depending on what you are looking for. My aim is to support you to find your own answers at your own pace within a safe and accepting therapeutic relationship. I can also offer potentially useful "tools" for you to try out and use, or discard as you wish.
Sometimes it's simply important to have a place where you can be heard and a person who will listen to your story with respect.
Managing change
Counselling and psychotherapy do, therefore, support change. My work is about helping people lead happier and more productive lives where you feel you are able to exercise more choice for yourself. I work with individuals and groups, using a range of skills to help you make the changes and improvements you want.
I have practices in Inverness, Scotland, and in North London.
