Psychotherapy and Counselling

Psychotherapy and counselling sessions can be very creative, and draw on the skills, strengths and experience of both counsellor and client.  Together we create a therapeutic alliance which supports you to accept things as they are, or to make the changes you would like for yourself.

What to Expect

We sit face to face; the length of the session and the fee payable will have been agreed already; or we will negotiate it together.

I will encourage you to talk through the problem that you are bringing to the session;

I will acknowledge what you are saying.

I will give you information about what I am hearing you say, eg patterns of behaviour or experience that seem to be occurring in your life;

Together we will identify issues you may want to focus on;

If you have tears or sadness I sit with you and witness your pain.

If you have anger, I witness your anger.  I can teach you anger-management techniques.

We can work on self-esteem issues;

I will encourage you to be aware of how you are using your physical body in having the thoughts and feelings you have.  We will look together at how you can hold your form without being rigid, and how you can be flexible without losing yourself.

If you have specific goals or targets, we will talk about these.

I may teach you skills and techniques from my "therapeutic toolkit" acquired over many years of training and my own personal experience.  You can try these out during the session and then use them at home for self-help purposes.
