What is counselling?
Counselling tends to focus on a specific problem or issue which is bothering you and can be oriented towards problem-solving, whilst giving you ample space to reflect on your thoughts and feelings.
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is often more open-ended than counselling, and gives you the opportunity to explore the origins of your current behaviours in your past experiences. It is reflective and aims to help you achieve insight and understanding about yourself so that you evolve into a more whole individual.
I use both these approaches in my work with clients, moving between the two as appropriate, depending on what you are looking for. My aim is to support you to find your own answers at your own pace within a safe and accepting therapeutic relationship. I can also offer potentially useful "tools" for you to try out and use, or discard as you wish.
Sometimes it's simply important to have a place where you can be heard and a person who will listen to your story with respect.
Managing change
Counselling and psychotherapy do, therefore, support change. My work is about helping people lead happier and more productive lives where you feel you are able to exercise more choice for yourself. I work with individuals and groups, using a range of skills to help you make the changes and improvements you want.
I have practices in Inverness, Scotland, and in North London.
Counselling and Psychotherapy in Inverness
I work as a counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice, based in Inverness, capital of the Highlands. I see individuals and groups for personal work, both at my practice rooms in Balloch, and elsewhere by arrangement. Contact me if you would like to find out more about how counselling and psychotherapy can help you.
Counselling and Psychotherapy in London
I commute to run my London practice approximately one week per month. I have a base in North London, and this enables me to see my individual clients as well as run my London professional support, and personal development groups. As you can see, I keep busy. However, I always have time to talk to you, so call me soon and let me know what sessions you would like to book, or simply catch up with an email chat. I would love to hear from you and I'm always happy to explore with you whether working with me is the right option for you.
Telephone Counselling
Telephone counselling with those living at a distance, can be a really useful alternative or complement to face to face meetings, when appropriate. Please call me for details on 01463 794828. |
